Baby You Can Drive My Car 3/?

Monday Afternoon
Scully decided that she didn't need to breathe. She had barely taken
a breath since the AD had informed her about Mulder's kidnapping. With her
diminished supply of oxygen, Scully noticed things that she'd never noticed
before. The increase of carbon dioxide in her bloodstream seemed to heighten
her senses. She noticed Skinner's face had lines in it, etched in with worry.
She noticed last night's headache much more than she had before. She noticed
how Mulder could single handedly keep the world from turning. Bastard.
Skinner was speaking to her now, and like a good agent, she paid
attention.
"I'm going to make the drop-off alone. We'll come a bit early to see
which way he comes into the Monument, and have an ambush waiting for him
after we've successfully recovered Agent Mulder." he explained.
Wait. There was something wrong here.
"Sir, what will I do?" Scully asked.
Assistant Director Skinner looked very uncomfortable. "Well, Scully…
I thought it was best if you stayed here."
Scully smiled a bit. "You really didn't think that I'd go along with
that, did you?" she asked innocently.
"Well…" Scully enjoyed watching her boss squirm.
"OK, Plan B. You make the drop with me." Scully smiled wider. That
suited her much better.

Sometime before 4:00pm
Fox Mulder was in pain. His body had not done him the courtesy of
shutting down, and the pain was all too evident. In addition, he was hungry.
He hadn't eaten since the party. After that first trip down the stairs on his
head, Mulder had tried scaling them nine other times. These superhuman
efforts had resulted in several more trips down on his head and other body
parts. He was currently sitting not quite upright against a wall. His right
arm hung uselessly at his side. It was definitely broken.
His captor had visited him a few more times, but Mulder never saw his
face. Every time, he was shoved facedown before he got a look and then was
sat on. The only thing he could identify was a scratchy voice and the
distinct smell of alcohol.
Mulder sat quietly now, because there were noises coming from the
upstairs.
"There gonna come at four o'clock, and I have to be at the Lincoln
memorial, so make it fast" said Mulder's captor.
"Relax, relax," the other voice soothed. A mans voice that was
vaguely familiar, and Mulder tried to place it. "They wait for you, you're in
charge here."
Mulder snorted. His captor was not in charge. Scully would find a way to make
sure this guy got what he deserved. At the same time, Mulder felt elated. It
was almost over! Scully would come for him, and he would be free.
It seemed that the two men were moving away from Mulder. He strained
to hear, but he couldn't. Then, the footsteps moved back toward him. His
captor and two other men made their way down the steps. For the first time,
Mulder got a good look. His captor was strong and muscular. His clothing was
tattered and worn. There was a long scar running from the man's left temple
to his cheek. His teeth were crooked and yellow. His eyes were black, his
skin olive.
That was all Mulder had a chance to register. He was rudely stuffed
into a laundry bag. Mulder didn't even protest…they were taking him to
Scully. She would protect him and make it better. The wind was knocked out of
his lungs as he connected with something hard. There was no noise except for
the lazy rumble of a motor.
"I'm in a car," Mulder thought, fighting claustrophobia. "And I'm
going to Scully, and she's going to fix me up fine."
The car skidded to a stop, and Mulder felt relief wash over him.
Soon.
4: 15pm
Scully was surprised. The drop-off had gone as expected, and she had
decided to take up breathing again. If her timing was correct, the ambush
would be apprehending the kidnapper is approximately five minutes. She smiled
and knelt to open the sack, which contained a lumpy, Mulder shaped object.
She spoke as she worked.
"We're gonna get you out of here" she said. Finally, despite her cold
fingers, the sack yielded to her efforts. Sighing with relief, she opened the
sack to reveal a lean man with cold eyes and a shock of blond hair. She's
been fooled! The man it there wasn't Mulder! The strength was drained out of
her, and she let Skinner spring into action, chasing the imposter.

4:15pm
Mulder felt the sack being undone after a few minutes. "Funny" he
thought. "The negotiations should have taken a bit longer."
With a burst of sunlight and fresh air, the sack opened, and Mulder
gasped at the familiar face the he saw. Alex Krycek!
And the world once again exploded into black.
