Part 5

'Scully, I Love You.'

Scully had to read the sentence twice before its meaning really began to sink in. She looked up at her partner in absolute wonder.

"Scully?" Mulder asked, the question evident in his voice.

Scully began to breathe again when he said her name, everything that was and is *Mulder* came across in that one question: the uncertainty, the fear, the strength of his beliefs, the love. She couldn't speak, she didn't trust her voice enough to relay everything she wanted. Slowly, she reached up and cupped his face in her hands and answered his question with a kiss.

She couldn't stop herself, she couldn't get enough of him, and when he got over the shock of her actions, his immediate response was all of the affirmation she could have ever dreamed of.

"It's about time."

They pulled apart as the small voice infiltrated their ears. Mulder smiled, imagining the goofy grin on Anna's face as Scully just looked at her in shock.

Anna lay very still in the bed, looking up at the two agents. She couldn't resist the comment, even feeling as rotten as she did. Suddenly, she frowned as a wave of darkness tried to sweep her away again. *I feel like a goddamned short wave radio.*

"Anna?" Scully asked, her face etched with concern as she moved away from Mulder to get closer to her.

"Tell the Gunmen that I was right. Tell them." Anna whispered as she drifted off.

"Mulder, we have to get her to a hospital. She is getting weaker." Scully said, standing up.

"Skinner?" Mulder replied, remembering the AD's reaction to the same suggestion earlier in the day.

"Mulder, listen to me. If we don't get her to a hospital soon, she will die. She is dehydrated, even though I think that is the least of her worries."

"How?"

Scully sighed as her mind ran through several ideas, discarding them one by one as unworkable until...

"Mulder, I think I'm going to have to ditch you."

Mulder's mouth dropped open in protest. His immediate response was cut off as his brain kicked into gear and he began to see what Scully was planning.

"Sure?"

"As sure as I have ever been as a Doctor. She needs help, Mulder." Scully waited, watching him carefully until the smile on his face answered her unspoken question. He typed something on the laptop and turned it around so that she could read it.

'Ah, Scully! You have been waiting for this since the first time I ditched you! I trust you, Scully.'

* * *

*This ought to be a blast. Jeezus Scully! Hurry up!*

Mulder waited quietly in the bedroom that he and Scully had shared since their arrival here. He was waiting for a signal from her, a coughing fit, before he could get started. He tensed as he heard Scully take in a deep breath and start coughing.

Suddenly, Mulder went crazy, and *gently* pushed Scully out of the room hoping he had looked convincing enough. He started throwing things, anything he could get his hands on. *Good move Scully! Putting all those dishes right there.* It didn't take long before the room was filled and chaos ensued. He felt Skinner's strong arms around him, trying to wrestle him down and he fought a smile.

"Agent Mulder!" Skinner yelled above the noise as he tried to hold onto him.

He heard Austaur's egocentric voice coming from his left side and this time he did smile as he solidly connected his fist with Austaur's face. After that, it didn't take too long for them to have him pinned down, and he prayed he had given Scully the time she needed.

* * *

Scully breathlessly ran into Anna's bedroom which, thanks to the commotion Mulder was causing downstairs, was empty. Quickly, she wrapped a blanket around Anna and picked her up, carrying her down the stairs.

*Come on Mulder, just a few more minutes*

He was doing a good job, she could hear the commotion as she left the house, practically running down the drive. *It's a good thing you are so light, Anna, too light.* She hoped the car that Skinner had used to bring them here was still parked outside the gate. She reached the gate without incident and began to panic when she noticed the car was nowhere to be found.

"Shit!" Scully swore as she looked around, freezing in her tracks as a cold gun muzzle pressed against her temple. Slowly, a face came into view.

"Krycek!"

"Hello, Dana." Krycek said, smiling. "Surprising to hear you talking, I thought that you were unable to."

Scully glared up at him and suddenly wished Mulder hadn't of done such a good job back at the house.

"Rat." Scully murmured as Krycek motioned towards a car parked just off the drive within the tree line. He walked her over the car.

"Easy does it, just put her in the back seat."

"I won't let you take her!" Scully said, suddenly realizing what Krycek wanted. Panic filled her as she thought of Mulder and what would happen to him without Anna's help. Her grip on Anna tightened.

"Oh, I think you will." Krycek said, studying her closely. "I don't want to kill you Dana, but I will."

The silence became deafening as Scully frantically searched her mind for a way out. Anna whimpered and opened her eyes. *Mulder's going to kill me, but I can't let her go.*

"Let me go with her, she needs a doctor." Scully pleaded.

Krycek looked down at the girl Scully was holding and considered. Anna stared up at him with glassy eyes, watching him silently before closing them again and seeming to return to unconsciousness.

Anna opened her eyes and panicked; she knew this man. Scully bent down and crawled into the car, holding her close. Closing her eyes, she heard the car door close and the ignition turn. Feeling like she was grabbing hold of a red-hot iron, she seized a line of energy and screamed.

Back at the house, Mulder stiffened in Skinner's arms and Austaur took off at a dead run. Skinner panicked, thinking Mulder was having some sort of seizure.

"Krycek!" Mulder yelled.

"What? Mulder what are you talking about?" Skinner asked. Suddenly, Austaur's voice filled the house and everyone knew that Anna was gone.

Austaur ran back in the room and grabbed Mulder, ripping him out of Skinner's arms. "Where is she? What did that Bitch do with her?"

Skinner jumped up and tried to separate them, when that didn't work, he put on his best 'I'm the Assistant Director and you -will- listen to me' voice.

"What in the Hell is going on?" Skinner demanded.

"Anna's gone, your agent took her somewhere. He was the distraction. Where did they go? Damn it! Tell me!"

"What?" Skinner glared at Mulder.

"Krycek!" Mulder began to sweat as he tried to make them understand.

"What about Krycek?" Skinner asked, looking puzzled as he glanced over and saw Austaur's face. Austaur looked as if he had seen a ghost.

"Wait." Skinner started searching the wreck Mulder had made of the room. Pulling Mulder over to a chair, he forced him to sit and pressed a pen and paper into his hands. Mulder scribbled furiously and thrust the paper back and when Skinner saw what Mulder had written, his face gained the same look as Austaur's, though for much different reasons.

'Krycek has them.'
